HISTORY OF BARANGAY CANG-ADIENG

Once upon a time, there was a woman native of this place near a brook aging, almost two centuries old in the person of “Maria Aring” was her nickname. Her name was a famous for her number of years due to her nearness of the brook, flowing water that all people from the adjoining barangay were bringing their domestic animals for drinking daily. As if she was the owner of the water. During the Spanish regime phonics were disregarded. Instead of Aring in short, it was pronounced as “ADING”. Her life had passed away so many years form now, her named remained living from the memories of men.

Before the advent of our Philippine Republic, a barrio or barangay was pronounced as balangay. Our present administration was calling all barrios as balangay therefore all generation were calling it Barangay. So, we are now in Barangay Cang-adieng, Siquijor, Siquijor.

The first founder in this Barangay was called “Teodoro Agan” also known as “AMBANG ORO” who’s resident are law-abiding citizens, place of cooperative quiet, peace-loving people. It was located in the Southern part of town, between San Juan and Siquijor. But it is famous for the first-class limestone, stone for macadamizing roads as noised far and wide. Our production are corn, cassava, peanuts and other farms crops which are subject to poor quality and merger harvest if less rainfall during planting seasons.

Lastly, I can say that life is what we make it, not prominence and honor, nor pride vain glory but for the benefits of our neighbor and for the glory of GOD.

                                                                                            I LOVE BARANGAY CANG-ADIENG
